The NYC Marathon Expo

We arrived at the hotel around 5pm the Friday before the race. The expo was open until 8pm, but race bib pick up only until 7pm. There was a bus stop right in front of our hotel and it left pretty much every 10 minutes or so. The hotel gave us a time schedule and also told us we can buy the ticket in cash on the bus. Perfect!

I was a little worried about tagging Zoe along, since she wasn't feeling too good, but we decided to better do the expo that night and not wait until the next day. The bus ride was supposed to be 15 min, but we went into rush hour and it took an hour. Zoe even fell asleep, poor girl!

It was a short walk from Port Authority to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. What a beautiful building, especially at night, the lights were great!


It was modern and clean and huge inside! It also wasn't as crowded as I thought! We got my bib# with no wait and also the shirts and everything. Super well organized!
Then we entered the expo and first was a big New Balance store, I was a good girl and "only" got the official jacket. It was expensive, but oh so worth it! We also visited other booths and got a few little handouts. We also stopped at Strava, and I told them Thank You, but it was kind of awkward, since the people there had no idea what I was talking about. It's kind of sad that Strava didn't do anything marketing wise with us winners. They could have at least organize a meet up for a picture! Oh well! I'm just super happy about the free entry and coaching I won.
She was such a trooper that evening, even though she wasn't feeling well, she tried her best to get excited for me. She even got her own medal!
One day I will be finishing all 6 Marathon Majors!! Hopefully Chicago next year!
Really cool was the wall of all runners! This was only a small piece, they had at least 50 of those walls! It made me feel super special to see my name!

 They had many big posters for great pictures all around!
I'm so thankful for those 2 for hanging in there and making my dream come true! I could have not done it without them! After the expo we grabbed some pizza and took the next bus back to the hotel. This time it was only 10 minutes!

We tried to make the best of the night and were looking forward to seeing family tomorrow!

I still can't believe it! I just got an Instagram message from Strava that I actually won a free entry for this years NYC marathon. The race is in 11 weeks! I'm shocked, scared and oh so excited!! I read the message while I was at the pool with my daughter and a friend. It was so nice to have her with me, as a runner she understood what an amazing opportunity this is! It all started a week ago when I saw a post on IG from Allie Kieffer that Strava gives away 10 free race entries + coaching from her! All you had to do was post a picture with the hashtag #MyNYCSummit. I posted the following: The night before the contest ended, I saw it was only 250 people who submitted a picture, way less than I thought. For the first time I thought this might be possible. Marathon Training while Vacationing in Seattle and ID

We had this vacation planned before I knew I was running the NYC marathon. I was signed up to run a half marathon in Idaho and a 10k in WA the next day. 2 new states!! This worked out great with marathon training. The rest of the runs I ran on my friend's treadmill and thanks to the 3 hour time difference getting up early and finishing my run before everyone else woke up was not difficult at all!   I can't believe I did 10 miles on my first day in Seattle! But thanks to the time difference I was up at 4 and done by 7am :) It's hard to tell what my paces were, but I did increase my pace every so often.   Thursday night I came down with a stomach bug! First some severe diarrhea but also puking. Friday my stomach was a little off, but luckily by Saturday morning that was all gone. Week 4 of NYC Marathon Training

My first week of officially having a coach and I loved it!! I do have to admit, I was scared at first! I haven't done any speed workout in a while, so I wasn't sure where I would be pace wise. But also, the total mileage was high! My highest this year was 30 and the plan showed 37 miles for this week. Which also means it will be more before NYC. My highest EVER was 41! Tuesday's speed work out and Wednesday's easy run was great. Thursday's 8 miler was a little challenging. I felt great running, but afterwards I was soo tired, my legs were dead! I was more than ready for a rest day on Friday. It might have been the higher mileage or maybe the new shoes I tried this week. Or maybe both. I did some good massaging and rolling that night and by Saturday morning I felt great again! Saturday meant a long run of 15 miles, with a WU mile, then 4@9:00, 6@9:45 and 4@9:00.
