Week 4 of NYC Marathon Training
My first week of officially having a coach and I loved it!! I do have to admit, I was scared at first! I haven't done any speed workout in a while, so I wasn't sure where I would be pace wise. But also, the total mileage was high! My highest this year was 30 and the plan showed 37 miles for this week. Which also means it will be more before NYC. My highest EVER was 41!
Tuesday's speed work out and Wednesday's easy run was great. Thursday's 8 miler was a little challenging. I felt great running, but afterwards I was soo tired, my legs were dead! I was more than ready for a rest day on Friday. It might have been the higher mileage or maybe the new shoes I tried this week. Or maybe both. I did some good massaging and rolling that night and by Saturday morning I felt great again!
Saturday meant a long run of 15 miles, with a WU mile, then 4@9:00, 6@9:45 and 4@9:00. I have never done different paces for a long run, usually it's just about survival. Luckily some guy from FARC ran the first 5 with me and except the last mile, we were way under the given pace. And we felt great! Plan was to switch out from my Altras and do the rest in my Asics, but the Altras felt so good, I decided to do the FARC 6 mile loop in them too. That loop I ran with Jim and goal was 9:45 but even though I really tried, I couldn't get the pace down. The last 2 were 9:30, other than that all miles were around 9:15. The last 4 miles I did by myself and was worried I might not be able to speed up again. But I did and ran all 4 sub 9:00. I felt great and stayed with my Altras for the whole run! No toe or hip pain! Oh and the whole run was in rain!
I did the 15 miles in 9:05 pace and was ecstatic!! Plus I felt really well! Tailwind is working well, too. I hope I didn't do anything stupid by running all 15 miles with my new Altras. I just started with them this week. But they just felt too good!
My legs were heavy, but not in pain and sore. I didn't even nap in the afternoon and I felt much better than I did on Thursday! Sunday I ran 4 easy miles and finished the week with 37.5 miles. AWESOME! Such a confidence booster week!! 7 more weeks like that and hopefully no sickness and NYC will be crushed!!
... 48 days until the NYC marathon!
