Peak Week for the NYC Marathon
When we came back from Seattle it was time for peak week!!
Always a big fan of easy runs, so the start of the week was great! Tuesday we were still in Seattle and I ran on the treadmill. Wednesday we flew back, but luckily we didn't have to leave for the airport until 8 am. I was so proud of myself for still running 4 miles on the treadmill before that!
Thursday's workout was scary. Not only did we have to drive back from Raleigh, but it was also a long workout and some fast paces. We were back home around 3pm and until we settled it was almost 4. Too late to really drive somewhere to run the full workout. So I decided to run this on the treadmill. Paces on my treadmill always seem so much faster and it frustrates me when I don't know how fast I really go. So I decided to give it a try and see what happens. I never ran on my treadmill faster than 7.0, actually pace of 6.0 seems so fast. Somehow that day, it just all clicked and I finished that workout just as described. And to top it off, my watch matched the treadmill paces!! It's like a miracle! I was soo happy and pumped after that run. What a huge confidence booster especially since I didn't feel like doing it.
Saturday was the big 20 miler of this training cycle. 8 miles at 8:45 was a little scary, but luckily Sarah met me for those miles. I did 4 on my own, then 6 with FARC, then 8 @8:45 with Sarah and then the cool down by myself again. And we crushed this workout! I finished 20 miles with an avg pace of 8:58!! The cool down miles I still did in the sub 8:45 range and my last mile was a 8:36!!
WU: 9:53, 9:25
8@9:10: 9:06, 9:07, 9:06, 9:02, 8:58, 9:05, 9:08, 9:11
8@8:45: 8:52, 8:41, 8:40, 8:50, 8:34, 8:47, 8:33, 8:58
CD: 8:42, 8:36
NYC, I'm coming for you!!
The hard work was done and I'm so excited for taper!! I'm really impressed with my progress and never ever would I have thought I would run a 20 miler with a sub 9min/mile pace! 6 years ago I ran my long runs in the 10-10:30 pace range!
Now I just need to stay healthy and all will be good! Also I need to be careful not to push too hard for that sub 4 marathon. I really need and want to enjoy NYC! But with paces like that it's easy to get carried away!
...14 days until the NYC marathon!
