Another Week Closer to the NYC Marathon!
Week 6 of NYC marathon training was another tough one, but oh so rewarding! I'm always excited to wake up on Monday morning and to check my new training plan for the week (Allie sends me the weekly training Sunday nights).
Tuesday's workouts always scare me the most and I'm glad it's early on in the week. This week we had another super humid and hot Tuesday. I can't wait for the weather to actually change to fall weather!! It should be any day now. Despite being tough conditions, I managed to got all 8 repeats in under 8:10! The recovery I had to walk though. I ran a total of 8 miles with an avg pace of 9:20 pace. So glad when that was done!
Thursday's midweek long run I did with Dagmar on Lee Drive and fall FINALLY arrived! What a difference low 60s and low humidity makes! I ran the 8 miles easily with a 9:05 pace and felt great, even tackled the two big hills without walking.
Saturday was a big one! I decided to run the 6 miles with FARC (this time with Sarah) and averaged about a 9 min/mile pace while chatting. I was a little nervous about adding 11 miles afterwards, but felt strong mentally and physically and hit my paces! I finished all 18 miles with an average pace of 8:52!!! The weather was a huge plus, but also splitting the long runs in 5/6 mile blocks with different paces, makes it feel a lot easier! I was listening to the Ali on the Run show and loved it!! I'm on cloud 9 after this run!! My hip was ok but I started to feel a little tightness around my inner left ankle as well. Both was totally ok to run through though. Afterwards they both hurt, but after some icing, I felt fine!
Sunday's easy run was totally pain-free! I expected my legs to be a lot more sore or heavy, but considering I did 18 the day before and also 42 for the week, I felt great! This was my highest weekly mileage EVER! And since it was the last day of September, I also finished the month with 160 miles!! Wow! The most miles I ran before was 131 and that was in 2011!
Today we also got our bib# and start assignments. I start at 10:40am with the ORANGE wave 3. That means I will be running on top of the bridge (no peeing on me!) Even though that's a myth! Things are getting real here! Only 5 more weeks and almost 2 of them, we'll be on vacation. I have a feeling the time will fly by like crazy!
I'm so excited, but also so scared and I try to take it one day at a time. I know I can finish, as long as I am injury free and healthy, that's all I'm hoping for! I found this quote today and it really fits right now. I told myself to do whatever Allie Kieffer tells me to do and try to be brave and adventurous, since I have nothing to loose.
... 34 days until the NYC marathon!!!
