Running the NYC Marathon - Thoughts and Worries

Today I finally got an email from Strava! After the initial "you won!"direct message through Instagram, I haven't heard anything. 5 LONG days later (and many what if this was just a bad joke moments) I'm glad it looks like this marathon is really happening!!

During the last 5 days I "met" another winner on Instagram and we had a great conversation. It just shows you, in any situation something good comes from it! We bonded over our excitement but also the worry. I'm excited to follow her along this crazy journey.

This week, I'm planning on running a few easy 4 milers and then a long run of 12 miles on the weekend. Next week the 10 week training plan is supposed to start. Can't wait to see what Coach Hudson and Allie Kieffer have planned for me!

I think I can get my training to a point that I can finish a marathon (no time goal for NYC, just ENJOY!), but my biggest concern is injury! Since April I'm dealing on and off with a nagging pain in my right hip. It's not bad while running, but it is super tight/sore afterwards. It was better for a little bit especially when I increased strength training, but then with all the vacations I stopped doing that. Also, my right calve is a little sore since Sunday. My right toe is doing well when I wear my correctoes. Those are amazing, I don't think I would be running right now if I didn't wear them. But will they handle a marathon? Basically my whole right leg is off. I'm worried that with increasing my long runs in such a short amount of time, I might end up injured and not be able to run the race!

Besides injury, I'm also worried we might be sick around the time the marathon is. My daughter is in preschool and even though she was fairly healthy the last few years, you never know. Every year, we ended up sick around Thanksgiving time.

I don't like that my mind goes straight to all the things that can go wrong, I need to do better with positive thoughts, especially with things I can't control anyway. So I tell myself "happy thoughts" and focus on my training one day at a time! Just need to stop worrying so much!

... 75 days until the NYC marathon!
